Indigenous trail of Siraichuli Hill
Trip Overview

The Chepang Heritage Trail is a lesser-known cultural gem belonging to the Chepang people of Nepal. Situated between the Kathmandu and Chitwan valleys, this area serves as a window into the traditional culture of the Chepang community. The trek along this trail offers a unique opportunity to explore their customs and way of life. It’s an ideal option for a short trekking or hiking adventure, providing an escape from the mainstream tourist paths without requiring extensive travel. Despite its proximity, you’ll feel like you’ve ventured into the remote corners of the country.

This journey presents an intriguing blend of cultural exposure, natural beauty, and adventure. The trail starts in the Trishuli Valley and ascends to Siraichuli, the highest hill in the Chitwan region at 1945 meters. From there, it descends to the lush lowlands of the Chitwan Valley. Along the route, you’ll encounter a diverse range of bird species, including notable ones like the Himalayan Cutia, Spiny Babbler, and the rediscovered Red-faced Liocichla. The trail also offers opportunities to appreciate other forms of biological diversity.

The panoramic mountain views from Siraichuli are awe-inspiring, stretching from the Jugal Himalayas in the east to the Dhaulagiri range in the west. Notably, the sunrise and sunset vistas from the historical fort of Uppardang Gadi are particularly spectacular. This trail presents a chance to immerse yourself in the lesser-known aspects of Nepal’s culture and natural beauty, all while enjoying a relatively short and off-the-beaten-path trekking experience.
