Shivapuri national park Hike
This is not just a hike but there are lots in between!
Shivapuri NP is the nearest park to the capital city, Kathmandu. Shivapuri day hike is a perfect getaway to experience the nature in its best for anyone with very limited time. This walk provides very natural and pleasant experience of being in real nature. On a clear day you can also see the spectacular mountain view in the north and bird’s eye view of Kathmandu valley to the south.
The park is very rich in its bio-diversity that spread over the summit of 2730m. The floras include alder, Schima and Castanopsis at lower part and Rhododendron, Oaks and Pine trees at higher. The animals like Black Panther, Common Leopard, Wild Boar, Muntjac, Rhesus and Common Langur monkeys etc forms the main fauns of parks along with over 300 species of birds, which includes some endangered and rare species.
For this enchanting tour, we take a short drive to the entrance of park and start walking right away. The walk can be stretched up to the summit or to the Buddhist monastery, during which we can get ample chance to enjoy and view the nature along with the birds’ call and song. There is great chance to see and hear the birds like White-crested Laughing Thrushes, Golden-spectacled Warbler, Mountain Bulbul, White-colored Blackbird, Hill Prinia, Great Barbet, Grey-hooded Warblers, Mountain Bulbul and numerous species around us, which make our day very productive and enjoyable.
The monastery offers view of Kathmandu valley and to the southern rim including the Phulchauki. The approach to the summit is marked by Baghdwar and shrines, site of origin of holy Bagmati river that drains Kathmandu valley, main source of water for the people.
The main wildlife includes Himalayan Black Bear, Common Leopard, Jungle Cat, Rhesus and Common Langur monkeys, Barking deer and many other small mammals, butterflies and etc.

6-7 hours of walking/hiking!
7AM: Departure from your hotel or on an agreed point
8AM: Arrive the national park gate and obtain the entry ticke
9AM-12 Noon: Hike and summit
1AM-3PM: Hike and arrive back to the gate
4PM: Retrun Kathmandu and hike ends
Note: The walking duration is a just a rough guide, that entirely depends on a individual how often he/she makes scenic, photographic or rest stops, see the wildlife/birds etc. Some people can make in much shorter time and some can longer than the given time. For best of this walk, our strong advise is take it easily and positively, so that you can really enjoy and get lot from this inspiring hike!

What to expect
Shivapuri national park embrace wealth of natural diversity. The vegetation consists of a array of natural forest, including pine, oak and rhododendron. Diverse wildlife recorded in the park consists of various mammalian species, extremely rich in bird life. Park also home to numerous rare and endangered species of butterflies and many species of mushroom. The walk though the natural and lush forest will be always enriching experience.
Besides the natural heritage, its also a cultural hike, as you will find Buddhist monastery and Baghdwar where Bagmati river originate, is with holy shrines
The spectacular mountain views from the summit on a clear day is another highlight.
When to do this hiking!
This hike can be done any time of the year. The mountain views may be missing during the months of July and August but its always great hiking experience in this natural forest with cultural experience.
