The trek: Flowers of Kanchenjunga
This trek, “Flowers of Kanchenjunga”, is taken into the remote part of Nepal in the east, where the 3rd highest mountain Kanchenjunga is located. As the land transportation is very long the flights are used from Kathmandu to eastern terai and then involve another 5-6 hours drive to starting point and back to Kathmandu from Tumlingtar. The typical trekking day is wake up early in the morning, have breakfast, followed by the walk to the overnight campsite. The hot lunch will be provided in the middle of the trek. It’s amazing to go through all beautiful the beautiful landscapes with cultural experience. The average duration for walk will be about 6 hours but some days can be longer and some days can be shorter. It all depends on your pace and how often you stop for the photographing, admiring the views and drinking water. Once you arrive to campsite, you will be greeted by hot cup of tea or coffee with cookies before you disappear into your tents. Dinner will be served in the evening after 6pm and if there is some time in between, people can wonder around but make sure your guide knows that or you may take the guide with too. The dinner is of three course- appetizer, followed my main course and desert, tea or coffee at the end. Our expedition cook will try his best to provide the wholesome, tasty and hygienically prepared food. During the camping arrangements and putting the tents if you wish to participate with our staffs, you are welcome to do so, which can be also great fun and interaction with the staffs.
Level of grade!
This trip is categorized as moderate level, which involves walking on steep trails when crossing river valleys and some time getting very strenuous. The duration of walking is usually of 6 hour walk but varies. The highest camping ground is at an elevation of 11,200 feet. The altitude can be felt but itinerary is designed in such way to give minimum impact. Anybody can take this trip provided the person is comfortable staying in tents, being in remote areas, meeting local people and has no chronic health problem. Positive attitude is also a plus point!
Season
For this trip, Flowers of Kanchenjunga, the best season to catch the blooming time of most of the rhododendrons is summer from mid-April through May. This trek can be enjoyed in spring and autumn season also if one if not very particular about flowers.
Flowering season of Rhododendrons
Due to fluctuations in blooming time caused by a multitude of factors (blooming of flowers varies from year to year, and within each year, due to species and altitude). We cannot guarantee they will be at peak bloom during the trek. We do our best to maximize time spent with species most in bloom.
