Chitwan national park located some 5-6 hours from Kathmandu, is the first and finest national parks of Nepal. Established in 1973 with about 1000 square km, Chitwan national parks is one of the natural world heritage site, extremely rich in biodiversity. The park is the only main (after Kaziranga in Assam) stronghold of an amazing Great Asiatic One-horned Rhinoceros, one of the unique creation of nature. Other major wildlife includes Royal Bengal Tiger, Common Leopard, numerous species of Deer, Sloth Bear (true Bear), Gaur, Wild Boar, Gangetic freshwater Dolphin with many reptiles and amphibians. The birdlife is one of the best in the park with well over 600 species out of 886 species of the whole country.

The park can be visited throughout the year, though it depends on what you are looking for. For best wildlife experience the months of September to May are the most recommended time. The best recommended activities are nature walk, boat trip on the river and jeep safari with other activities.

And for general tour- 2 nights 3 days is must and for specific interest such as birdwatching you need 3-4 days, atleast to maximise the record. At the same time experience wildlife resorts located near the park would be the best, who are experienced in wildlife safari service with experienced and educated nature guides and experts.
