Hiking in the nearest national park to the capital city Kathmandu
Shivapuri Nagarjun, is the nearest national park to the capital city, Kathmandu. This park offers a wonderful walking experience in its natural ambiance. The park is extremely rich in its biodiversity. The Alder, Schima and Castanopsis at lower part and Rhododendron, Oaks and Pine trees makes its vegetation at the higher elevation. The rare Black Panther, Common Leopard, Wild Boar, Clouded Leopard, Pangolin, Muntjac, Rhesus and Common Langur monkeys with many other species, forms the main fauna of parks along with over 300 species of avifauna (birds). On a clear day, you can also enjoy the spectacular mountain (Langtang, ganesh Himal and Jugal range) view in the north from the summit. It is one of the best nature hiking experience near Kathmandu, for anyone with very limited time.
For this enchanting tour, you will take a short drive to the entrance of the park and start walking right away. The walk can be stretched up to the summit or to the Buddhist monastery, during which, you can get ample chance to enjoy and view the nature along with the birds’ call and song, which make our day very inspiring and enjoyable. The monastery offers a view of Kathmandu valley and to the southern rim including the Phulchauki. The approach to the summit is marked by Baghdwar and shrines, site of origin of the holy Bagmati river that drains Kathmandu valley, the main source of water for the valley.

The walking duration is a just a rough guide, that entirely depends on an individual how often he/she makes scenic, photographic or rest stops, see the wildlife/birds etc. Some people can make in much shorter time and some can longer than the given time. For best of this walk, our strong advice is to take it easily and positively, so that you can really enjoy and get a lot from this inspiring hike!
