Nestled on the lap of the 3rd highest mountain Kanchenjunga, Milke Danda is located in the east Nepal. Rhododendron forest’s of Milke Danda is one of the most spectacular forest with some 30 species of Rhododendrons in Nepal, including some endemic species of Rhododendrons flowers. Our treks are scheduled during the time when the forests come in its full bloom in late April. These Himalayan flowers are very popular and colorful flowers in Nepal. Rhododendron arboreum is the national flower of Nepal.

The trip

Where in the world one can find the, one of the largest Rhododendron forest with some 30 different species, that too on the lap of 3rd highest mountain Kanchenjunga in the world?

Milke Danda is the place within this Kanchenjunga area, in the east Nepal that is also known as land of unique eastern Nepal culture and tradition. This area is entirely on off the beaten trail, unexplored area in Kanchenjunga Conservation area (KCA) that is an important and rich biodiversity area of the country. You will be exploring the numerous features of rhododendrons and cloud forests. The setting is dramatic with exceptionally inspiring settlements en route. The view of Kanchenjunga range and the unique culture from this part of the country adds the more enjoyable experience of the trip.

Trekking for Rhododendrons

This trek, “Rhododendrons and Kanchenjunga”, is undertaken into the remote part of east Nepal, where the 3rd highest mountain Kanchenjunga is located. As the land transportation is very long and tiring, the flight is used from Kathmandu to eastern Terai with a drive to starting point and flight back to Kathmandu from Tumlingtar at the end. 

The level of grade!

Moderate level with the highest camping ground is at an elevation of 3700m.

Best Season

Mid-April through May- due to fluctuations in blooming time caused by a multitude of factors (blooming of flowers varies from year to year, and within each year, due to species and altitude). We cannot guarantee they will be at peak bloom during the trek. We do our best to maximize time spent with species most in bloom.
