Nepal is extremely rich in bird diversity, occupying almost 9% of the world’s birds. The diversity of birds decreases as you go towards higher elevation but there are many special birds that mainly inhabit that particular area. Whereas, lowlands of Nepal is where the most of the birds are recorded in the country. This birding tour, “Birds of Nepal“, is a great combination to see and experience the two different habitats of birds, a great way to explore the birds of Nepal, see the snowy mountains and local cultures.
Exploring the Birds of Nepal from lowland to highlands such as Himalayan Vulture, Great Hornbill, Great Slaty Woodpeckers, Bengal Florican, Prinia and Long-tailed Broadbill, Himalayan Cutia, Rose Finches, and many other globally threatened (GTS) and rare species from Nepal . Wildlife such as Great One-horned Rhino, Big Cat and much more. At same time famous Himalayan peaks of stunning Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Fishtail.
Trek and Tour
In this trip, you will tour some of the best parts of the country, exploring the diverse species of birds of the Nepal with the stunning snow capped Himalayan views. The tours starts in Kathmandu with exploring the birds of Godawari/Phulchauki Hill as this is the best birding location near Kathmandu and is very scenic destination near Kathmandu. The next part is the birding hike through the Annapurna conservation area, that is well known for some of the most spectacular and highest mountain of the world such as Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks with rich in birdlife along with other wildlife such as Monkeys, Yellow-throated Marten, Common Leopard, Muntjac and Himalayan Black and Brown Bears etc. After mountains, you will travel down to the finest Chitwan National Park of Nepal, located in the southern lowlands, that is well known for the birds and major wildlife of the country.
Level of Grade: Easy to moderate trip
Best months: Dec, Jan and Feb though October, Nov, March, April and May are also good months
Nepal gets back its most of wintering migratory birds from the mid-Nov and stay till March-April. Summer visitors start migrating from mid-March onwards.
Bring along: A pair of binocular (8×42 or 10 x 40 recommended) and telescope if possible, Birds of Nepal field guide, pencil/pen and notebook, and camera.
