Hiking in the nearest national park to the capital city Kathmandu
Shivapuri Nagarjun national park is the nearest park to the capital city, Kathmandu that offers a great walking tour experience in its natural ambiance. The park is very rich in its biodiversity that spread over the summit of 2730m. The floras include Alder, Schima and Castanopsis at lower part and Rhododendron, Oaks and Pine trees at higher. The animals like Black Panther, Common Leopard, Wild Boar, Muntjac, Rhesus and Common Langur monkeys etc forms the main fauna of parks along with over 300 species of birds, which includes some endangered and rare species. On a clear day, you can also see the spectacular mountain view in the north and bird’s eye view of Kathmandu valley to the south. It is also best for anyone with very limited time.
For this enchanting tour, we take a short drive to the entrance of the park and start walking right away. The walk can be stretched up to the summit or to the Buddhist monastery, during which we can get ample chance to enjoy and view the nature along with the birds’ call and song. There is great chance to see and hear the birds like White-crested Laughing Thrushes, Golden-spectacled Warbler, Mountain Bulbul, White-colored Blackbird, Hill Prinia, Great Barbet, Grey-hooded Warblers, Mountain Bulbul and numerous species around us, which make our day very productive and enjoyable.

The summit further higher is the second highest point of Kathmandu valley rim with small open space, great to have some rest and enjoy the mountains such as Ganesh and Langtang Himalayan range.
Duration: 6-7 hours of walking/hiking!
7AM: Departure from your hotel or on an agreed point
8AM: Arrive the national park gate and obtain the entry ticket
9AM-12 Noon: Hike and summit
1AM-3PM: Hike and arrive back to the gate
4PM: Return Kathmandu and hike ends
The walking duration is a just a rough guide, that entirely depends on an individual how often he/she makes scenic, photographic or rest stops, see the wildlife/birds etc. Some people can make in much shorter time and some can longer than the given time. For best of this walk, our strong advice is to take it easily and positively, so that you can really enjoy and get a lot from this inspiring hike!
