Rolwaling Valley
Valley of flowers and Glacier Lake
TripCode: TH017
12 Days trip
The Rolwaling Valley, home to the stunning glacial lake of Tsho Rolpa, lies in the Dolakha district, just west of the famous Solukhumbu (Everest) region and east of Kathmandu. The two areas are separated by the challenging and technical Tashi Lapcha Pass (5,700m).
Trekking through the Rolwaling Valley offers a unique experience. The trail follows the Rolwaling River and the mighty Tama Koshi, passing through alpine landscapes, the important glacier lake of Tsho Rolpa, and traditional Sherpa settlements. While it may sound similar to other Himalayan treks, Rolwaling remains less known and rarely traveled—making it a hidden gem.
The region is rich in natural beauty, featuring deep gorges, roaring rivers, cascading waterfalls, and serene lakes, all surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks. Mount Gaurishankar stands as the region’s centerpiece, accompanied by numerous majestic peaks to the north and east.

The Trek
The trail winds through the lush Rolwaling Valley, following the Rolwaling River and passing through beautiful forests, traditional settlements, and the large village of Na before reaching the stunning glacial lake of Tsho Rolpa. On average, you’ll walk about 6–7 hours per day, though this can vary depending on individual pace and fitness level.
The trek is graded as moderate to strenuous, with the highest elevations reaching above 4,000 meters.
While the trek can be done year-round, the best seasons for stable weather and crystal-clear mountain views are from autumn through spring—specifically from September to April or May.
